About Us

There is not much to explain about ConvBolt. It is a unit converter, and its job is converting length, weight, volume, temperature and speed units between the metric and imperial systems with high precision. What follows is how it works, why it exists, and what it does with your data.

Why ConvBolt exists

Most everyday-utility tools online spend more screen space on advertising and consent banners than on the calculation. ConvBolt takes the other approach — the tool does one thing, converts length, weight, volume, temperature and speed units between the metric and imperial systems with high precision, and the page stays out of the way while it does. A narrow scope is easier to keep correct.

How the calculation works

The calculation happens in your browser, not on a server. Specifically, it converts every value to a base unit using international standard factors and back out to the target unit, so a chain of conversions does not accumulate rounding error from intermediate steps. The method is documented rather than concealed, so you can reproduce a result by hand and see exactly where any difference comes from.

Privacy by default

Privacy here is a property of the design, not a promise: the values and units you enter never leave your browser, because the calculation runs there. There is no server to receive them, no store to hold them, and no third party with access to them.

Who it is for

Keeping the lights on

ConvBolt is free to use and supported by advertising. Adverts are kept off the working part of the page, and no advertiser receives anything you type. If a page ever becomes slow or intrusive, that is a bug worth reporting.
